My birthday ! Yes, I am leaving for the Holy Land on my birthday, and going without my wife makes me a little sad.
Up nice and early to get to Gatwick for 7 am.
Everything straight forward at the airport, onto the plane and we are on our way.
For some people all was not well, some of the TV screens don't work but those affected could choose something from the duty free up to the value of £35. Unfortunately I wasn't one of them, instead of free duty free I got to watch the movie.
Arrived in Tel Aviv, a couple of short questions at the check-in desk.
We all manage to get through without any hassle, and onto the coach to the Hostel in Jerusalem.
My first impressions ?
Hot and very dusty.
I noticed that a large number of cars have red and white reflective stripes on them. Found out later that they are only there for visibility ! Nothing sinister at all !
Staying at ST George's Hostel. I wonder how many English people know that their patron Saint is Palestinian.
Tired and grateful for bed we have had to have the fan going as it's still pretty warm. Unfortunately we can't do a lot about the traffic. They like to beep their horns all day and all night, and the concept of taking things easy does not apply to driving; I'll never complain about British driving ever again !
